Year 3

Welcome to Year 3 and to the Juniors.  As Juniors, the children become more independent.  With independence comes privileges and responsibilities.  They are expected to demonstrate great listening, concentration and effort as well as excellent behaviour, setting a fantastic example to the children in the Infants.

Important Things to Know

 P.E. Kit

Our P.E. lessons are on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Children need to come to school dressed in their P.E. kits, therefore they do not need to keep a P.E. kit in school. As a reminder, this is

Navy shorts.

Red Worplesdon T-shirt. A plain red t-shirt is acceptable.

Trainers for outdoor games lessons.

Navy tracksuit for outdoor games lessons.

Please avoid sending your child to school wearing earrings on P.E. days.

In the summer term, the Year 3 children will begin swimming sessions and will need to bring a swimsuit, towel and a cap for these sessions.

 Homework

In Year 3, children will receive age-appropriate homework tasks each week. Children are expected to read 4 times a week. This includes your children reading aloud and being asked questions about the text. Please refer the questions shared with you via parent mail or speak to your class teacher.  Children are also expected to develop their fluency of their timetables. Children can do this by going on TTRS. As a minimum they should be playing for 21 minutes. At the end of Year 3, we strive for all children to know their 2x, 5x, 10x, 3x, 4x and 8x tables. We provide support in school and give children plenty of opportunity to rehearse and learn them.  Once the fluency in times tables is embedded the children will have access to ATOM learning which is personalised to them. Lastly children will be sent home with some spellings for them to learn. There are different steps that will be explained on the sheet that will help them to learn and remember them. Children will then be tested on these in school each week.
